Mobile BayBears News Release

JACKSON, TN - The Mobile BayBears (51-33) broke a 3-3 tie in the ninth to top the Jackson Generals (35-49) 4-3 in the series finale at The Ballpark in Jackson. The win is Mobile's fourth in five days against the Generals and 11th win over Jackson in 15 games between the two teams in 2014.

RHP A.J. Schugel sat down 20 of the first 21 batters he faced, including 17 in-a-row. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth the Generals broke up Schugel's no-hit bid with a soft ground ball to right. Thy righty came back out and retired the side in the seventh but ran into trouble in the eighth inning.

The Generals began the bottom of the eighth with a solo homer from Pat Kivlehan to snap the shut out and then added two more runs to tie the game at 3-3. Schugel had to settle for a no decision, having allowed three runs on four hits over seven full innings before LHP Patrick Schuster came on in relief in the eighth inning.

Gerson Montilla put Mobile back in front in the top of the ninth inning with a ground ball to Generals shortstop Ketel Marte who misplayed the ball with two outs and the bases loaded to allow the BayBears go-ahead run to score.

Schuster earned the win in relief after retiring the side in the eighth and RHP Kaleb Fleck earned his ninth save of the season, striking out two batters in a perfect ninth.

The BayBears now return to Mobile tomorrow, July 4 to open a five game set with the Pensacola Blue Wahoos at Hank Aaron Stadium. Fans are invited to stick around after Friday's game for a special Independence Day Fireworks show.
