PEARL, MS -- In front of an early Independence Day Celebration crowd of 7,365 the Mississippi Braves defeated the Huntsville Stars 7-3 at Trustmark Park Thursday night. It was the third-largest crowd in Mississippi Braves history-ranking just behind the two Chipper Jones rehab appearances in 2006.

Mississippi (10-5, 49-35) scored seven runs on 12 hits while Huntsville (7-8, 53-32) plated three runs on eight hits. Jose Peraza, Seth Loman and David Rohm all collected three hits at the plate. Kyle Kubitza drove in three runs while Rohm added two ribbies.

The Stars jumped out to a quick lead in the first. Kentrail Davis walked and took second on a sacrifice bunt. Nick Ramirez then delivered a double down the left field line to drive home the game's first run. Ramirez advanced to third on a wild pitch before Erik Komatsu singled through the left side to make it a 2-0 game.

Peraza singled to lead off the bottom of the first. Cedric Hunter walked and Loman singled to load the bases. Kubitza then delivered a bases-clearing triple to put the M-Braves out front 3-2. David Rohm followed with a RBI-double, extending the Braves lead to 4-2.

Peraza started the second with a double to left field and Mycal Jones reached on a fielder's choice. Cedric Hunter then singled to center, driving home Peraza. Loman singled to right to make it a 6-2 game. Rohm later singled to drive in another, extending the Braves lead to 7-2.

Robinzon Diaz doubled to start the Stars' fourth. Nick Shaw followed with another double before Yadiel Rivera drove in Diaz with a ground out, cutting the Braves lead to 7-3.

Mitch Atkins (3-0) gave up three earned runs on eight hits and a walk. He struck out four batters in six innings pitched to pick up the win. Andy Moye (4-1) tossed 5.2 innings for the Stars, giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits. He walked one and struck out five.

The M-Braves travel to Montgomery for a five-game series against the Biscuits. In game one of the series Friday night, the Braves send right-hander Jason Hursh (6-5, 4.10) to the hill. The Biscuits will counter with righty Dylan Floro (7-6, 3.05). First pitch is slated for 6:05 PM.
