La Crosse Loggers News Release
ROCHESTER, Minn. - The La Crosse Loggers gained some momentum heading into the Wednesday off day after securing wins at both Copeland Park and Mayo Field over the past two days. The Loggers topped the Rochester Honkers 4-2 on Monday night in front of 2,528 fans on a picture-perfect night at the Lumberyard, and then toppled the Honkers once again with a 3-1 road victory on Tuesday night.
Pitching led the way each day for La Crosse, which evened its record at 27-27 for the season and sits at 10-8 in the second half, a game behind division leaders Eau Claire (11-7) and Duluth (11-7). Steve Bowley (Shepherd) earned the win on Monday night, allowing just one run and three hits over six innings complete. Matt Richey (Bradley) and Jared Freilich (Penn State) blanked the Honkers the rest of the way to close out the victory.
Mark Sellers (Merced College) earned the win on Tuesday night, throwing five scoreless innings for the Loggers, and was followed by scoreless innings by Tyler Shingledecker (Penn State) and Jon Meyerring (Miami of Ohio). Freilich came on to close out the game once again, earning his league-leading 13th save on the season.
Cody Jefferis (San Diego) had a pair of hits each night for the La Crosse offense, including a solo home run on Tuesday night. JT Schwartz (UCLA) went 3-for-7 over the two games to raise his season average to .397.
