Lincoln Saltdogs News Release
LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs dropped their series finale against Sioux Falls on Sunday, losing 5-1 at Haymarket Park. Lincoln falls to 38-30 on the season, 9-11 in the second half.
Sioux Falls starter Ben Moore (9-5) held the Lincoln bats in check most of the night, allowing just one run on four hits over his seven innings of work. The league's strikeout leader fanned Saltdogs on the night, increasing his total to 100 on the season. Lincoln didn't get a hit until Phil Hawke's bunt single in the fourth inning. The 'Dogs finally touched Moore for a run in the sixth on a two-out single by Argelis Nunez.
Lincoln starter Chris Cullen (2-3) didn't pitch badly, but his night was undone by a pair of home runs. Beau Torbert just snuck one over the wall in left for a solo shot that opened the scoring in the top of the second. In the third, a pair of singles set the table for Reggie Abercrombie, who hit a three-run blast that proved to be too much for the Saltdogs to overcome. The Pheasants scored their final run in the ninth inning on a wild pitch.
Albenis Machado and Rafael Alvarez had the only multi-hit nights for Lincoln, with each hitter going 2-for-4. Brandon Jones didn't have a hit, but did draw a pair of walks. Tycen PoVey tossed a pair of scoreless innings in relief.
The American Association now pauses for the All-Star Break, with the 2010 All-Star Game taking place Tuesday night in Wichita. Machado, Gavin Dickey, Jim Paduch and Chris Thompson will represent Lincoln as players, Marty Scott will manage the North Division team, and Chris Miyake and Jarrett Gardner will appear as coaches.
Lincoln returns to action at home on Wednesday at 7:05pm to open a four-game series against Sioux City. Right-hander Jake Marceaux will take the mound for the Saltdogs.
