Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release
SHREVEPORT, La. - Starting pitcher Greg Krause and a balanced Grand Prairie AirHogs attack ended a five-game losing streak, a four-game Shreveport-Bossier Captains winning streak and hopes of a Captains four-game series sweep Sunday night, as the AirHogs beat the Captains 7-1 in front of 916 fans at Fair Grounds Field.
All nine AirHogs hitters had at least one hit, and five had two as the Captains pitchers were in trouble all night long. Robert Perry started things with a triple to right and scored on an Antoin Gray sacrifice fly against Cardoza Tucker (1-2), and the AirHogs stayed in front the rest of the way.
After escaping jams in the next two innings, back-to-back leadoff doubles and a two-out single by Perry made it 3-0, before the AirHogs (26-41, 2-18 2nd half) ended Tucker's night with a three-run fifth, getting three straight hits to start the inning and another two-out RBI hit, this time from Mikey Horn.
Krause (3-5) struck out a season-high eight hitters, got out of a bases-loaded jam in the fourth, and only allowed one unearned run on a passed ball in the fifth. He got a groundout with two on and two out in the seventh to end his night, allowing seven hits with three walks.
The Captains (40-27, 11-9) left 12 runners on base and hit into two double plays, as they were never able to climb back into the game.
The 11th AirHogs player, Chris Martin, finished things up, working around three hits and a walk in the final two innings.
Notes: Marcus Salmon, playing right field for the third straight day, had two hits. The AirHogs ended an eight-game losing streak at Fair Grounds Field. No Grand Prairie player had more than two hits. The AirHogs left 11 men on themselves.
