Lincoln 5, Sioux Falls 3
Lincoln C Pat Trettel tied the score in the seventh with a solo home run, and 1B Juan Camacho won the game in the eighth with a two-run shot of his own in a 5-3 win over Sioux Falls. The Pheasants led 3-2 in the late innings thanks to RBI singles by DH Beau Torbert and CF Reggie Abercrombie and a strong start by Ryan Rodriguez, who took the loss, but pitched the full eight innings. However, Lincoln starter Nick Tyson pitched well enough to keep the Saltdogs in the game, and the power surge came late. After the two late home runs for Lincoln, relievers Brendon Smith and Chris Thompson, who earned his 18th save, shut the door on the Pheasants.
Sioux City 7, Fort Worth 1
Sioux City starter Ty Marotz threw seven shutout innings, and C Matt Kramer paced the offense in a 7-1 beating of Fort Worth. Marotz improved to 5-3 by scattering six hits and striking out six in the game. Kramer, for his part, finished a perfect 3-for-3, knocking in three, and cranking his third home run of the season. No other Explorer batter tallied more than one hit, and the Cats outhit Sioux City 11-7 in the loss.
Shreveport-Bossier 8, Grand Prairie 2
Shreveport-Bossier starter Ryan DiPietro and reliever Justin Young combined to shut down Grand Prairie in an 8-2 Captains win. DiPietro scattered 10 hits and allowed two runs in seven innings, and Young allowed just one hit over the final two frames. Offensively, each of the top seven batters in the Captain offense had at least one hit, including leadoff man CF Jovanny Rosario, who collected four. Also starring was SS Uriak Marquez, who hit his fifth home run and drove in three in the game. In the loss, the AirHogs got a perfect 4-for-4 performance from LF Daniel Berg, but still fell to 1-18 to start the second half.
