
Lillibridge homer, walk lead Crawdads past Kannapolis

Hickory Crawdad SS Brent Lillibridge broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the eighth inning with a leadoff homer and walked with the bases loaded in the ninth inning to lift Hickory past Kannapolis 2-1 in front of 1,881 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium Wednesday night.
Hickory starter Joe Bauserman pitched six scoreless innings, and âDads reliever Derrik Moeves went two run free innings. Kannapolis right hander Derek Rodriguez worked seven scoreless innings as the game went into the eighth inning with no score.
Lillibridge led off the eighth with a homer to straight away center field against Kannapolis reliever Jason Rice. Lillibridge also homered against Rice to center field to break a scoreless tie in the fifth inning of game two's double header on Monday night in the âDads 2-1 win.
Crawdad reliever Matt Swanson relieved Moeves looking for his seventh save of the season to begin the top of the ninth inning. He allowed a leadoff single to Kannapolis SS Javier Castillo. Intimidator catcher Francisco Hernandez followed with a single and LF Salvador Sanchez drove in the game tying run with a one base hit. After 2B Brandon Johnson hit into a fielder's choice, the I's had first and third with one out. Swanson picked Johnson off of first base for the second out of the inning. Kannapolis CF Paulo Orlando lined out to first base to end the inning.
With the game even at one in the bottom of the ninth, Kannapolis turned to reliever Ryan Rote. He allowed a leadoff single to RF Brad Corley. Hickory LF Jason Delaney bunted Corley to second base. Hickory 1B Tony Mansolino was walked and Rote was relieved by left hander Israel Chirino. The southpaw struck out catcher Steve Lerud for the second out of the inning; then 2B Cameron Blair drew a walk to load the bases. Chirino nearly picked Blair off of first base before Lillibridge drew a bases loaded walk to give the âDads a 2-1 win.
Swanson (4-3) allowed one run in one inning to earn the win. Rote (1-12) allowed one run in one-third of an inning to take the loss.
The teams play the final game of a five games series at 7pm Thursday night in Hickory. Crawdad right hander Kyle Pearson meets Kannapolis righty Daniel Cortes.
