CHARLESTON, SC - Ben Jones drew a bases-loaded, ninth-inning walk-off walk - his fourth RBI of the night - and the Charleston RiverDogs held off a late comeback to defeat the Greenville Drive, 6-5, in South Atlantic League action Wednesday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

With the victory, Charleston has won both games in the four-game and six consecutive games overall to improve the season mark to 35-30 with four games remaining in the first half. Greenville slips to 33-31.

Down 5-4 entering the ninth inning, the Drive tied the game against RiverDogs' all-star closer Cory Stuart (2-1), who blew his first save of the season in seven chances. Dominic Ramos' RBI groundout knotted the score at five, but Charleston retaliated with the winning run in the bottom of the inning.

Reegie Corona led off the ninth with a single to left and Austin Jackson sacrificed him to second. Drive pitcher Matt Hancock intentionally walked Marcos Vechionacci and then issued another walk to Jose Tabata to load the bases.

With the count 3-1 to Jones, Hancock's next pitch was high and outside, sending the RiverDogs to their ninth win in the last 12 games.

With the game knotted at 2 apiece in the fifth, Jones drilled his seventh home run of the season on a 1-2 pitch that sailed slightly to the right of the left field foul pole. It brought home Vechionacci and Tabata, who both opened the stanza with back-to-back singles.

Charleston scored a run in their first time at the plate on a C.J. Henry groundout RBI and added another run in the third when Eduardo Nunez singled home a run against Greenville starter Chris Jones.

The Drive scored a pair of runs in the third when Yahmed Yema connected on a Wilkins Arias pitch that flew past the right field fence for his fifth home run, bringing home Ramos, who singled to right.

Arias pitched six complete innings and gave the RiverDogs their sixth straight solid start during the current winning streak. He allowed only the two runs on Yema's third inning blast and give hits, striking out six.

Stuart, who pitched the last 1.2 innings, picked up the win that improved his record to 2-1. In the process, Stuart struck out three batters while allowing one run on two hits.

Jones, an all-star right-hander, lasted only four innings as he allowed five runs on seven hits. Hancock (0-1), who pitched 1.1 innings, suffered the loss having walked three.

Jones led the RiverDogs' 8-hit attack with three base knocks to go with his four RBI, while Tabata added a pair of singles. Yema led Greenville with three hits, while Logan Sorensen and Ramos each had a pair.

Games 3 and 4 of this four-game series are set to be played in a doubleheader Thursday, beginning at 5:05 p.m. Charleston will send southpaws Zach Kroenke (5-2, 3.55 ERA) and Abel Gomez (2-1, 3.18 ERA) while Greenville plans to send righty Clay Buchholz (3-2, 3.61 ERA) and lefty Tim Cox (2-3, 2.85 ERA) to the mound.
