LAKEWOOD, N.J. - The Lakewood BlueClaws, the Monmouth-Ocean Central Labor Council, Monmouth-Ocean County Building Trades, and the Toms River Armory are teaming up for a Troop Supply Drive at FirstEnergy Park on Wednesday, July 5.
"We proudly support our troops serving this country and really look for ways to help out any way we can," said BlueClaws General Manager, Geoff Brown. "This event is a great way for the community to come together and help out the men and women serving overseas."
Fans who want to participate in this event can start dropping off donations at 5:00 p.m. The BlueClaws take on the Delmarva Shorebirds at 7:05 p.m. with the gates opening to the ballpark at 6:00 p.m. Donations will be collected throughout the evening.
Fans can help out by bringing basic household items like toothpaste, shampoo, razors, deodorant, batteries, insect repellant, tissues, powdered Gatorade, baby wipes and other type items such as DVDs, CDs, games, pens and paper, etc. Also needed are boxes for shipping, no larger than 18x18x24 and no smaller than 18x18x16.
Last year's Troop Drive collected over 7,000 pounds of goods for the troops. Also that night, the BlueClaws will be hosting a Military Appreciation Night, with a pre-game on-field ceremony along with recognition for the troops throughout the game.
Fans that are not able to attend the game but want to contribute to the drive can do so by dropping the items off at the Local 440 Hall at 3301 HWY #138 E Wall from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
In 2005, the Lakewood BlueClaws were the recipients of Baseball America's Bob Freitas award for overall excellence in Minor League Baseball. The BlueClaws have led the league in attendance every year, topping out at 444,607 in 2005 and became the fastest team in South Atlantic League history to reach the 2 million fan attendance mark. Tickets are on sale now. For tickets or more information call 732-901-7000 or visit the BlueClaws website at www.blueclaws.com.
