Asheville Tourists News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC-- The Asheville Tourists wrapped up their first five-game series of the season with a 6-1 victory over the Kannapolis Intimidators on Monday night. After dropping the first game of the series, the Tourists won the final four games of the set. It is the first time this season Asheville has won four consecutive road games.

The Tourists knocked around the Intimidators in the third inning. With runners at first and second Omar Carrizales dropped down a sacrifice bunt. Kannapolis' pitcher Zach Thompson threw the ball away allowing Asheville to take a 1-0 lead. Forrest Wall followed with an infield single to make it 2-0 and after Shane Hoelscher's RBI groundout, Luis Jean tripled home another run.

It was a costly third inning for the Tourists; however, as Wes Rogers and Wall both left the game with injuries. The four runs were plenty for Helmis Rodriguez to work with. The starting pitcher spun seven shutout innings with the help of four double-plays behind him. Rodriguez scattered eight hits en route to his sixth win of the year.

Dom Nunez gave the Tourists their fifth run of the game with a solo Home Run in the seventh. Carrizales added an RBI single later in the inning. The Intimidators lone run came in the eighth on a bases loaded walk. Jerad McCrummen recorded the game's final four outs and notched his fourth save of the year.

Nunez, Carrizales, and Drew Weeks all finished with two hits as the Tourists totaled 12 on the evening. Asheville next welcomes the Charleston RiverDogs to McCormick Field for a four-game series that begins Tuesday night. The first pitch is at 7:05pm.
