Lexington Legends News Release
Elier Hernandez' run-scoring single in the fifth inning broke a 5-5 tie, and the Lexington Legends went on to an 8-5 win over the Savannah Sand Gnats Monday night. The game was completed Monday after being suspended Sunday afternoon after four innings due to rain.
The Legends added their last two runs in the top of the ninth on a double by DonAndre Clark, a run-scoring single by Corey Toups, and a double by Ryan O'Hearn.
The Legends are now 3-0 in the second half of the season and are in first place in the Southern Division of the South Atlantic League
The Legends took a 2-0 lead in the first inning Sunday. Toups drew a leadoff walk, stole second, went to third on a balk and scored on O'Hearn's sacrifice fly. Hernandez followed with his fifth home run of the year.
The Sand Gnats responded with two in the bottom of the first. Luis Guillorme and Wuilmer Becerra walked, and Guillorme advanced to third after Eudor Garcia flied out to center field. John Mora's infield hit scored Guillorme, and when pitcher Pedro Fernandez threw past first after fielding the ball hit by Mora, Becerra also scored to tie the game.
Savannah moved in front with a run in the second. Jean Rodriguez walked, stole second, continued to third on a throwing error by catcher Chase Vallot and scored on a single by Adrian Abreu.
The Legends took a 5-3 lead in the third on a three-run homer by O'Hearn, his league-leading 17th home run of the year, but Savannah came back with single runs in the third and fourth, leaving the score at 5-5 when the game was suspended.
Corey Ray (2-3) got the win in relief for the Legends. Paul Paez (2-2) took the loss.
A seven-inning game follows the completion of the suspended game Monday.
