RiverDogs Split Doubleheader with Drive, 4-1, 2-4

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The Charleston RiverDogs and the Greenville Drive split a doubleheader Monday, with Charleston taking the first game 4-1 and dropping the series finale 4-2 at Fluor Field at the West End.

GAME ONE: Jordan Foley (2-2) made his first start since rejoining the team after a short stint with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Foley tied a season-high with six strong innings and struck out seven to earn his first win since April 19 at Savannah.

For the only time in the series, the RiverDogs (2-2 second half, 36-38 overall) got on the board first with two runs in the second inning. Alexander Palma, who had four RBIs in Sunday's victory thanks to an eighth inning grand slam, drove in another run on a sacrifice fly. Two batters later, Collin Slaybaugh made the score 2-0 with an RBI single to right.

Leading 2-1 in the fifth, Charleston tallied another run. Slaybaugh hit a one-out single, Bo Thompson followed with a double, and then Slaybaugh scored on Jorge Mateo's ground out to short.

With runners on the corners and two outs in the seventh, Austin Aune added another run of insurance with a double to right field that scored Ryan Lindemuth. Aune leads the team with 33 RBIs.

Caleb Frare came in to close out the game after Foley issued a leadoff walk to Joseph Monge in the bottom of the seventh. Frare promptly picked off Monge and worked around a two-out single by Yoan Moncada to earn his first save of the season.

Greenville (2-2, 40-34) scored their lone run in the bottom of the third. Moncada singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a ground out. Rafael Devers brought him home with an RBI double that cut Charleston's lead in half at the time. Dedgar Jimenez (5-4) took the loss, despite pitching the first complete game of his career.

GAME TWO: The RiverDogs (2-3, 36-39) bounced back from an early 2-0 deficit to tie the game in the second inning. Palma and Lindemuth hit back-to-back doubles, and then Lindemuth scored later in the frame on a throwing error by the third baseman Michael Chavis.

The Drive (3-2, 41-34) responded with their second two-run inning of the game in the bottom of the third to take the lead back for good. Danny Bethea began the inning with a base hit to left. Three batters later, Carlos Mesa hit a two-out, two-run home run over the Green Monster in left field.

Greenville tallied their first two runs in the bottom of the first. Moncada reached on a throwing error by the first baseman Isaias Tejeda. Chavis followed with a double, and then Moncada scored on an RBI ground out by Bethea. Chavis scored later in the inning on an RBI single by Javier Guerra.

Jamie Callahan (1-5) earned his first win of the season since Greenville's starter, Jake Drehoff, only lasted 4 1/3 innings. Matt Marsh (1-2) pitched all six innings for Charleston for his first complete game and struck out a career-high nine batters in the loss.
