Savannah Sand Gnats News Release
Savannah, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats split a doubleheader with the Lexington Legends Monday at Historic Grayson Stadium, dropping the opening game 8-5, before winning the nightcap 3-1.
Game one was the completion of the suspended game from Sunday afternoon which the teams resumed tied at 5-5 in the top of the fifth inning. The Legends (3-1/34-40) scored in the top of the fifth off Paul Paez and added two more runs in the top of the ninth against Dawrin Frias.
The Gnats (1-3/40-34) won their first game of the second half behind a strong pitching performance from Corey Oswalt in game two. Oswalt tossed six shutout innings with six strikeouts and two walks. He did not retire the side in order in any inning, but only allowed one runner to third.
Savannah did all of its scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Catcher Tomas Nido and left fielder Joe Tuschak contributed RBI doubles and centerfielder John Mora added an RBI single into right field. The Gnats were efficient with their baserunners with just one man left on base in the game.
