(Moosic, Pa) - Adam Leverett (1-0) made a strong impression on Friday night for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (40-45) as he led them to a 6-4 win over the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (50-33).
Ruben Tejada hit a two-run single against Braden Bristo (5-2) in the top of the second inning to give the IronPigs a 2-0 lead. Bristo allowed just two runs before Matt Krook entered the game to pitch in relief. The Pigs extended their lead to 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning when Tejada scored on an RBI groundout and Matt Vierling hit a two-run double.
Leverett allowed just one run off two hits and two walks with six strikeouts in six innings pitched for his triple-A debut. The lone run he allowed was a home run in the bottom of the sixth inning hit by Greg Allen. The home run for Allen was his second of the season.
Donny Sands hit a three-run home run against Damon Jones in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut Lehigh Valley's lead to 5-4. The home run for Sands was his fifth of the season. Vierling struck again in the top of the ninth inning when he hit an RBI single against Ron Marinaccio to give Lehigh Valley a 6-4 lead.
Cam Bedrosian earned his second save of the season by pitching a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.
The Pigs and RailRiders continue their series on Saturday at PNC Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
