Lexington Legends News Release

After gaining an early 4-0 lead, the Lexington Legends had to come from behind to beat the Hickory Crawdads 6-5 Tuesday night in Hickory.

Kody Hinze's two-run single capped a three-run Lexington outburst in the first inning. The two runs batted in increased Hinze's South Atlantic League-leading total to 63.

The Legends added a run in the second to make it 4-0, but Hickory came back with all five of its runs in the bottom of the second. An RBI single by Travis Adair, a two-run double by Miguel Velazquez and a two-run single by pinch hitter Edwin Garcia put the Crawdads on top 5-4.

Lexington tied it in the fourth. Grant Hogue walked, went to third on a single by Jose Altuve, and scored when a pickoff attempt at first got past first baseman Ed Koncel for an error.

The Legends scored the deciding run in the sixth inning. Aaron Bray, who had four hits in the game, led off with a single. He came all the way around to score when Koncel, who had been moved to third base, threw past first after fielding Jake Goebbert's ground ball.

Zach Grimett (2-0), who entered the game in the third inning in relief of starter Robby Donvan, pitched four scoreless innings to get the win. Wander Alvino worked the seventh and eighth innings, and Kirk Clark pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn his 14th save. Samuel Brown (0-1) was the losing pitcher.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
