Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - The Cardiac Claws won a game in walk off fashion for the eighth time in 36 home games this season, beating the Hagerstown Suns (Nationals) 2-1 Tuesday night.

Brian Gump led off the ninth with Lakewood (4-1, 46-29) trailing 1-0 with a triple against Suns closer Dean Weaver (1-2). One out later Adam Buschini doubled to the corner in left to tie the game.

Gump went 3-for-4 on the night, bumping his average up to .263 since being sent down from Clearwater.

With the winning run on second and one out, Anthony Hewitt popped out to third, bringing up Jiwan James. James responded by doubling over the head of centerfielder Eury Perez to deep center to seal the 2-1 walk-off win.

Both starting pitchers were excellent, but neither figured into the decision. Brody Colvin let up just one run, a solo shot by Justin Bloxom to lead off the second, in 6 2/3 innings.

For Hagerstown (2-4, 38-38) Paul Demny shutout the Claws through seven, allowing just three hits.

Eric Massingham (2-1) pitched a scoreless inning of relief in the ninth for the win.

Wednesday the BlueClaws and Suns will play a matinee at FirstEnergy Park. RHP Colby Shreve (2-2, 4.18) will take on Suns LHP Mitchell Clegg (8-1, 2.55).
