Legends take 4-2 win over Hickory

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, KY) Starter Ruben Alaniz and two relievers combined to hold Hickory to four hits as the Lexington Legends beat the Crawdads 4-2 Friday night. Alaniz (4-4) worked six innings, and allowed two runs, one earned. He struck out five batters.

Lexington scored one run in the first inning. Jordan Scott led off with a single, advanced to third on Jiovanni Mier's single, and scored when Adam Bailey grounded into a force play at second. Hickory countered with two in the second. After Christian Villanueva struck out, Andrew Clark walked and advanced to third on Josh Richmond's single. Jake Skole singled to right, scoring Clark. Richmond also scored when

Bailey's throw from right field went into the dugout for an error.

The Legends answered with two in the bottom of the second. Enrique Hernandez led off with a walk, Tyler Burnett followed with a single, and Roberto Pena walked to load the bases. Emilio King singled to right, driving in Hernandez and advancing Pena to second base and Burnett to third. One out later, Mier hit a sacrifice fly to center, scoring Burnett and giving the Legends a 3-2 lead.

Lexington added one more run in the fourth. Burnett doubled to lead off, went to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Scott's groundout to second, giving the Legends their final 4-2 margin.

In the top of the ninth, Clark doubled to lead off the inning. After Richmond grounded out, Bailey made a diving catch in right field on Skole's line drive. Clark broke for third after the catch, but was cut down by Bailey's throw and a relay from second baseman Hernandez for the final out of the game.

After splitting the first two games, Lexington and Hickory will meet in the rubber match Saturday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
