Hickory Crawdads News Release
LEXINGTON, KY - After rain delayed the first pitch by 50 minutes, the Hickory Crawdads fell to the Lexington Legends, 4-2, before 4,787 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark in Lexington on Friday night.
The Legends (29-32) struck right away, plating a run against RHP Matt Thompson (L, 2-4) and the Crawdads in the bottom of the first inning. LF Jordan Scott and SS Jiovanni Mier led off with back-to-back singles, before a fielder's choice hit into by RF Adam Bailey brought in Scott for the 1-0 lead.
The Crawdads (33-27) responded right away, taking the lead with two runs in the top of the second against RHP Ruben Alaniz (W, 4-4). With one out, 1B Andrew Clark sparked the rally with a walk, and quickly advanced to third on a RF Josh Richmond single. CF Jake Skole followed with an RBI single that knocked in Clark and led to a throwing error on Bailey in right field, enabling Richmond to score on the play as well, putting Hickory in front, 2-1.
Lexington countered with two tallies of their own in the bottom of the second, moving back in front. The Legends loaded the bases with no one out and tied it on an RBI single by CF Emilio King. One out later, Lexington retook the lead on a sacrifice fly by Mier to score 1B Tyler Burnett from third and give the Legends the 3-2 advantage.
Lexington plated one more insurance run in the bottom of the fourth. With runners at second and third and one away, RHP Colby Killian took over on the mound for Hickory. Killian got Scott to ground out and Mier to strike out to end the inning, but Scott's grounder plated Burnett from third, stretching the Lexington lead to 4-2.
Killian dealt the next two full innings in scoreless fashion, before RHP Joe Van Meter and LHP Jimmy Reyes followed with a scoreless inning apiece on the mound. However, the Legends also received scoreless relief from RHP David Martinez in the seventh and eighth and RHP Jason Chowning (S, 1) in the ninth to close the 4-2 win for Lexington.
