Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Augusta, GA - The Delmarva Shorebirds and the South Atlantic League have invited Augusta GreenJackets third baseman Adam Duvall to participate in this year's All-Star Game Home Run Derby. Duvall has accepted the invitation and will become the third GreenJacket in as many years to compete for the honor of Home Run Derby Champion.
Duvall, who was selected to start at third base for the Southern Division, will join nine other All-Stars in the competition. Five hitters from each division will compete through a three-round format with the Home Run Derby Champion walking away with a $500 check. The competition will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday June 21st, prior to the All-Star Game later that night.
Entering play today (June 10th), Duvall is tied with Hagerstown's Bryce Harper for the league lead in the category with 14 home runs. Duvall's selection to the Derby continues a run of recent Augusta representation in the popular pregame contest. In recent history, Juan Perez competed in 2009 before losing in the semifinal round and Chris Dominguez was crowned Home Run Derby Champion in 2010 after winning on a blast that landed on the roof of the New York Life Building behind the left field fence of Greenville's Fluor Field.
Duvall joins four other GreenJackets that will represent Augusta at the league's midsummer classic. Second baseman Carlos Willoughby will also start for the Southern Division while starting pitcher Taylor Rogers and closer Stephen Harrold will help make up the Southern Division pitching staff. GreenJackets Pitching Coach Steve Kline will also be involving, serving in the same position for Southern Division manager Ryan Ellis.
The GreenJackets play the second game of a three-game series in Savannah tonight against the Sand Gnats at 7:05 p.m. with radio pregame coverage beginning at 6:50 p.m. on WRDW-AM 1630 and online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com . The GreenJackets return home on Sunday to open a four-game series with the Lexington Legends at 5:35 p.m. Single-game tickets for any home game can currently be obtained by calling 706-922-WINS or online at www.greenjacketsbaseball.com .
