GREENSBORO, N.C. (June 9, 2011) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators knocked out 15 hits on their way to an 8-3 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers in the series opener on Thursday night. Juan Silverio smacked a two-run triple in a four-run third inning, and the Grasshoppers never recovered.

Intimidators starter Dexter Carter (1-2) earned his first win of the season with five innings of work, allowing three runs -- including two home runs -- on five hits. Carter struck out a season-high five batters while walking three before giving way to relievers Phil Negus and Orlando Santos. The bullpen combined for four scoreless innings to prevent any chance of a Greensboro comeback.

After the Grasshoppers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning, Kannapolis answered in the third. Ross Wilson and Brady Shoemaker singled to get aboard, and Dan Black's base hit brought home Wilson to put Kannapolis on the board. Silverio followed with his second triple of the season to pull the Intimidators ahead, and Miguel Gonzalez drove in Silverio for a 4-2 lead.

Trayce Thompson added a two-run homer (11) in the seventh inning, and Dan Black blasted a solo home run (7) for another insurance run in the ninth.

Greensboro's Jay Rogers (2-4) took the loss, surrendering four runs on 10 hits in five innings.

The Intimidators and Grasshoppers continue the three-game series on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Greensboro.
