(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Cincinnati Ben-Gals cheerleading and dance team, one of baseball's "Bash Brothers," and the fight against breast cancer will be in the spotlight during a Lexington Legends homestand beginning Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Thirsty Thursday and two fireworks shows are also on the agenda, and a "Diamond Dig" July 12 will give a fan a chance to win a diamond worth $1650.

The Legends, class A affiliate of the Kansas City Royals, will take on the Hagerstown Suns, an affiliate of the Washington Nationals, in a four-game series. Game time is 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 6:05 p.m. Sunday.

The schedule:

Thursday, July 10: Legends vs. Hagerstown, 7:05 p.m. The Legends will bring National Football League atmosphere to Whitaker Bank Ballpark with a special appearance by the Cincinnati Ben-Gals. The Ben-Gals, the cheerleading and dance team for the NFL's Cincinnati Bengals, will appear before and during the game.

The Ben-Gals will have a pre-game autograph session from 6:00-6:45 p.m. Ben-Gals calendars will be available for $10 each. There will be a total of four performances before the game and between innings. Another autograph session will be held during the seventh inning of the game. Both autograph sessions will be open to all fans.

Friday, July 11: Legends vs. Hagerstown, 7:05 p.m. Jose Canseco, who hit 462 home runs in a major league career marked with accomplishment and controversy, will be at Whitaker Bank Ballpark for a special appearance. Before the Legends game, Canseco will compete in a Home Run Derby with some local celebrities, along with fans whose names were chosen in a drawing. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., and the Home Run Derby will begin at 5:45. There will also be an autograph session during the game that will be open to all fans.

Canseco gained fame as one of the Oakland A's "Bash Brothers," along with Mark McGwire, in the 1980s. He led the American League with 42 homers and 124 runs batted in in 1988 and 44 homers in 1991. He also stole 200 bases in his major league career, including 40 in 1988, when he became the first player in MLB history to hit at least 40 home runs and steal at least 40 bases in the same season. He was the American League Rookie of the Year in 1986 and AL Most Valuable Player in 1988. Canseco retired in 2001.

Canseco's book, Juiced, released in 2005, detailed his own longtime use of steroids, and also named other baseball stars as users.

Friday night is Wine Night, sponsored by Gallo Barefoot, and a Ford Fireworks show will follow the game.

Also on Friday, the Legends will salute Beep Baseball Kentucky, which provides blind or vision-impaired players an opportunity to play baseball.

A Ford Fireworks show will follow the game.
