Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC-- The Asheville Tourists were unable to complete a sweep of the Rome Braves following a 4-0 loss in a game shortened to seven innings due to rain. The Tourists were unable to get the offense rolling against Yean Carlos Gil, who pitched a gem for the Braves.

Rome struck first in the third. DH Gerald Chin led off with a double, CF Connor Lien followed with a single, and LF Conner Oliver hit a single to drive in Chin and give the Braves the early lead. Ross Wilson and Victor Caritini drove in Lien and Oliver later in the inning to make it a 3-0 Braves lead.

The Tourists nearly struck back in the fourth when Michael Benjamin reached base on an error and Raimel Tapia singled. With runners on first and second with no outs in the inning, it looked like the Tourists would be able to cut into the Braves lead. But Correlle Prime flew out to left and Tapia was caught off the bag at first for a double play. The next batter, Ryan McMahon grounded out, stranding Benjamin at third.

The Braves added another run in the fifth on a RBI double by Oliver. Tourists' starter Zach Jemiola exited the game after six, giving up seven hits and four runs in his six innings of work. His adversary Yean Carlos Gil was phenomenal. Gil gave up one hit and no runs, retiring the last 11 Tourists he faced in what turned out to be a complete game shutout.

After 7 innings, the tarp was rolled out onto the diamond in preparation of storms. The game was later called. Despite the loss, the Tourists ended their home stand with a 4-2 record.

The Tourists travel to Kannapolis on Thursday night to begin a four game set with the Intimidators.
