Edinburg, TX - The Texas Legends (2-3) battled through a fast-paced, high-scoring matchup but ultimately fell 133-126 to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (1-2) Saturday night at Bert Ogden Arena, splitting the two-game series.
Matthew Cleveland posted a strong performance, recording 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 steals while shooting an efficient 8-of-13 from the floor. Dalano Banton added 22 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 assists, and Sheldon Edwards contributed with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
Mark Armstrong provided a spark off the bench, finishing with 24 points, including 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Zhaire Smith (11 points) and Miles Kelly (11 points) rounded out the double-figure scorers for the Legends.
RGV was led by Isaiah Crawford's 27 points, while JD Davison posted a double-double with 26 points and 13 assists. Kevon Harris added 22 points, helping the Vipers withstand multiple Legends runs in the second half.
The game featured 10 ties and 10 lead changes with both teams shooting exactly 50% from the field. After the Legends claimed Thursday's win, the Vipers opened Saturday's rematch with a 40-point first quarter. Texas countered with several runs to tighten the contest, but Rio Grande Valley made key plays down the stretch to secure the split in the back-to-back series.
The Legends now return to Comerica Center looking to bounce back as they host the Oklahoma City Blue on Friday, November 21st. Tipoff is set for 7:30 PM CT.
