The Lexington Legends broke a 1-1 tie with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, and then held on for a 3-2 win over the West Virginia Power Thursday night at Applebee's Park.

Jake Goebbert led off the eighth inning for Lexington with a single and was sacrificed to second by Jonathan Meyer. Goebbert moved to third on an infield out, and then scored when Aaron Bray lined a double to left field. Bray came home on a single by Grant Hogue to give the Legends a 3-1 lead.

The Legends needed that third run right away as Evan Chambers led off the top of the ninth with a home run off Legends closer Kirk Clark. Jarek Cunningham reached first on an error by Bray, and David Rubenstein singled to left field to put runners at first and second. But Clark retired Aaron Baker on a fly to left field for the first out of the inning, and Ramon Cabrera grounded into a second-to-shortstop-to-first double play to end the game.

Wander Alvino (2-0), who pitched the seventh and eighth innings, got the win. Clark picked up his tenth save. Starter Juan Minaya allowed two hits and one run over the first six innings. He pitched to two batters in the seventh.

West Virginia reliever Ryan Kelly (0-1) took the loss.

Lexington outfielder J.D. Martinez had three hits in four at bats and raised his league-leading batting average to .364.

The two teams wrap up their four-game series Friday night at Applebee's Park. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
