HAGERSTOWN, MD - The Hagerstown Suns jumped on the visiting BlueClaws early Thursday night, cruising to a 7-2 win.

After an easy 1-2-3 first inning, Lakewood (31-24) starter Colby Shreve (L, 3-3) ran into trouble in the second. The Suns had four hits in a row, including a two run single by Jeff Kobernus that put Hagerstown (29-26) up 4-0.

The Suns added to their lead in the third. Steven Souza singled, and Justin Bloxom tripled him in to make it 5-0. The lead was bumped up to six after Bloxom scored on a Destin Hood sac-fly.

Shreve managed to make it through six innings, but was tagged for eight hits and seven runs. Shreve has now lost his last three starts giving up 16 earned runs in his last 16.2 innings.

The BlueClaws offense was limited by Suns starter Mitchell Clegg (W, 7-0), who allowed only two hits in five innings. Lakewood managed just four hits total on the evening.

The only two runs for the Claws came on a Stephen Batts RBI groundout in the sixth, and a Jonathan SIngleton bases loaded walk in the ninth. It was Singleton's third walk of the evening. Jeremy Barnes struck out in the next at-bat to end the game.

With first place Hickory also losing, the BlueClaws stay two games back of first in the SAL North with 15 to go in the first half.

Friday at 7:05 pm LHP Matt Way (3-4, 4.34) will take the hill for Lakewood against Suns RHP Trevor Holder (4-1, 3.13).
