Hagerstown Overpower BlueClaws 7-2

The Hagerstown Suns (29-26) came out on top against the Lakewood BlueClaws (31-24) 7-2 Thursday night.

In the bottom of the second, Hagerstown put tallies on the board as Justin Bloxom hit a single to left, J.R Higley doubled to center bringing Bloxom. Adrian Nieto then hit a line drive to center scoring Higley. The Suns did not stop there as Eury Perez doubled to right putting Nieto in perfect scoring position at third. After Jeff Kobernus singled, Nieto scored putting Hagerstown in the lead 4-0.

The Suns momentum kept going in the bottom of the third as Steven Souza singled to center and a triple by Justin Bloxom bringing in Souza. Another run was scored after Destin Hood hit out on a sacrifice fly scoring Bloxom. Hagerstown kept the lead 6-0.

After Francisco Soriano tripled to left, Justin Bloxom grounded out putting up another tally for Hagerstown as Soriano scored in the bottom of the fifth.

Lakewood tried to answer back in the top of the sixth as Kyle Morrison replaces Mitchell Clegg for the Suns. After Jonathan Singleton was walked, Sebastian Valle doubled to left putting Singleton at third. The BlueClaws got only one as Stephen Batts grounded out scoring Singleton making the score 7-1.

Suns starting pitcher Mitchell Clegg (7-0) got the win of the evening pitching five innings with one strikeout. Rob Wort got the save with a strikeout coming in the top of the ninth with bases loaded and two outs.

The starting pitcher for Lakewood Colby Shreve (3-3) got the loss giving up seven runs in six innings pitched.

The Suns return to action Friday night for the last game of the Lakewood four-game series at 7:05. Gates to Municipal Stadium open at 6:05 p.m.
