South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC- The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that President Taylor Lee has left the team to pursue other interests and that Director of Public Relations and Broadcasting Darren Abbott has been named President, effective immediately.
"The ownership group appreciates Taylor Lee's contributions to the organization and wish him well in his new career. Darren Abbott has been with our organization since 1996 and knows every aspect of its operations. We have full confidence in Darren's ability to lead the Stingrays organization to even greater heights," said Jerry Zucker on behalf of the ownership.
The Stingrays have just completed a 13th regular season of hockey in the Lowcountry and are preparing to open up the Kelly Cup Playoffs on Monday night at the North Charleston Coliseum, against either Augusta or Charlotte. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Thursday, April 6, 2006 at 10:00 at the North Charleston Coliseum Box Office.
Lee served in his post for four seasons beginning in the 2002-03 campaign. He leaves the Rays to take the position of Chief Operating Officer of Health First in Charleston.
Abbott originally came to the Stingrays in 1996 and became the Director of Public Relations and Broadcasting in 1999. He was named the ECHL's Media Relations Director of the Year in 2000 and in 2001 and the Charleston Metro Sports Council's Low country Sports Business Professional of the Year in 2003.
"I am very excited about this new position and the challenges that surround it," commented Abbott. "I am excited to continue the tradition of success that this franchise has enjoyed both on and off the ice."
The Stingrays have clinched fourth place in the South Division and will play either Charlotte or Augusta beginning with Game One on Monday, April 10th at the North Charleston Coliseum, with a Game Three scheduled for Wednesday, April 12th. The Rays will wrap up the regular season on the road this week with games at Greenville on Tuesday, Gwinnett on Friday and Columbia on Saturday. The Stingrays have never missed the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
