Bakersfield Condors News Release
WEST VALLEY CITY, UT - Kevin St. Jacques' assisted on Kevin Truelson's first period goal in the Bakersfield Condors' 3-1 loss to the Utah Grizzlies in front of 2,920 fans at the âE' Center.
Bakersfield struck quickly off of a Kevin St. Jacques faceoff victory. St. Jacques pushed the puck through his legs to the left point for Kevin Truelson, who fired a slapshot through Michaud's five- hole to put the Condors up 1-0 just 2:38 into the game.
Four minutes later, Scott Basiuk fired a slapshot from the right wing blue line. The rebound off of a save by Bakersfield goaltender Ryan Munce banked through the slot to Travis Rycroft, who responded with a booming slapshot of his own. Munce stopped the shot, but this rebound bounced to Brad Herauf, who hesitated then flicked the puck past the sprawling Munce to tie the game at 1-1.
Ed Hill capitalized on Utah's power play mid-way through the first period after passes by Louis Dumont and Joe Dusbabek. Hill wound up and fired a slap shot past the left side of Munce to give Utah its first lead of the night at 2-1 with 8:16 remaining in the frame.
Following a scoreless second period, Bakersfield pressures Utah throughout the third and outshooting the Grizzlies 10-3 in the game's final 20 minutes. The Grizzlies would hold off the Condor attack and pick up an insurance goal with and odd-man rush. Dumont tapped a backhand pass to Ryan Kinasewich on his left side. Kinasewich one-timed the puck just past the right pad of Munce and inside the post to make it 3-1 Grizzlies for the game's final.
Alfie Michaud earned the victory with 19 saves on 20 Bakersfield shots. Ryan Munce was credited with the loss despite stopping 24 of Utah's 27 attempts.
Other notes: Kevin St. Jacques' assist was the 999th point of his career, just one shy of his 1000th. Dave Bonk's five-game goal scoring streak came to a close in the loss. The Condors' 20 shots tied the team's season low mark set on February 10th against Idaho.
For the record: The Condors dropped to 37-26-6 for 80 points. Bakersfield trails idle Long Beach by a single point for 2nd place in the Pacific Division. Bakersfield has one game in hand over Long Beach with three games remaining in the regular season.
