Lawrence Strong As Rainiers Fall To Grizzlies, 3-1

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (60-64) collected just seven singles and one run in a 3-1 loss to the Fresno Grizzlies (72-53) on Saturday night at Cheney Stadium.

First baseman Cameron Perkins (2x5) and shortstop Zach Vincej (2x2, 2 BB) collected the Rainiers only multi-hit performances - they both registered a pair of singles. Center fielder Ben Gamel (1x5), designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach (1x3, 2 BB), and catcher David Freitas (1x4) all notched base knocks.

Tacoma starter Casey Lawrence worked five one-run innings for the Rainiers, lowering his season ERA to 2.69. Across his five frames Lawrence allowed five hits, issued no walks, and struck out three Grizzlies batters on 70 total pitches (47 strikes).

The Rainiers bullpen turned in their second strong performance in a row, combining to allow just one earned run across the final four frames. Justin Grimm (1.0 IP), Tyler Higgins (1.0 IP), and Ryan Cook (1.0 IP) all turned in scoreless performances, while Dan Altavilla (1.0 IP) allowed two runs (one earned) in his second rehab outing with Tacoma.

Tacoma and Fresno will wrap up their series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. PT. The Rainiers will look to start right-hander Bryan Evans (5-2, 4.30) against Grizzlies left-hander Kent Emmanuel (5-2, 4.42).
