August 19, 2018 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
Reno, NEV. - Salt Lake jumped on Aces starter Matt Koch in the top of the first inning. The Bees came around to score five runs on five hits thanks to a leadoff home run from shortstop Luis Rengifo. Rengifo took the second pitch he saw from the Aces right-hander over the left field wall. Koch would recover, getting the next two batters out, but three consecutive hits coupled with a two-run fielding error led to a five-run inning for Salt Lake. The loss brings the Aces record to 65-61 this season, still in second place in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Northern Division.
It didn't take long for the Bees to take a lead as on the second pitch that Luis Rengifo saw he hit a home run over the right-field wall. Salt Lake tacked on four more runs, two of which came off RBI doubles from Jose Briceno and Alberto Triunfel to give Salt Lake the 5-0 advantage. In the bottom of the second Kevin Cron blasted his 22nd homer of the season to cut the Bees lead to 5-1. Salt Lake plated two runs in the middle innings to extend their lead to 7-1. Two more long balls from Kristopher Negron in the sixth and Anthony Recker in the seventh made the score 7-3 Bees. In the eighth inning, Reno mounted a comeback started by a Socrates Brito RBI double to center field. Two batters later Recker platted Juniel Querecuto to cut their deficit to 7-5. Rey Fuentes would bring Reno within one run on an RBI single to left field. The next batter Yasmany Tomas then tied the game at 7-7 when he laced an RBI double down the left field line. The huge eighth inning wouldn't be enough for Reno to pick up the victory as Salt Lake plated a run in the top of the ninth for their 66th victory of the season.
