Chihuahuas Run Streak to Five

The El Paso Chihuahuas won their fifth straight game overall and their team record 12th in a row at home by edging the Las Vegas 51s 4-3 on Friday night.

In a tightly contested game throughout, Francisco Mejia blasted his third homer in a Chihuahuas uniform in the first inning, tying the game at two. Luis Urias also extended his hitting streak to a season high tying eight games, going 3-for-3, with a single, double and triple. Urias now has five straight multi-hit games, three straight three-hit games and is 14 for his last 20. Cal Quantrill started and pitched five innings, giving up three runs in a no decision. Carter Capps struck out five in two innings of relief, picking up his first win of the season.

With Saturday night's win, the Chihuahuas improved 20 games over .500 (72-52), marking the most games over .500 El Paso has ever been. The Chihuahuas starters have also gone 14 straight games allowing three or less earned runs. El Paso's win, coupled with Salt Lake's loss to Reno, pushes the Chihuahuas lead in the division to 7.5 games with 15 games to go.
