Late Rally Falls Short to Sea Dogs

The Portland Sea Dogs edged past the Erie SeaWolves by 7-6 final in the second game of the series on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park.

Portland opened the scoring in the second inning when they jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Henry Ramos singled with one out and then came around to score on Tzu-Wei Lin's second triple of the year. Keury De La Cruz then followed up with a two run homer, which capped off the big inning for the Sea Dogs.

The SeaWolves battled back in the bottom half of the inning by putting up a four spot to take the lead.

Dean Green singled to lead off the inning and moved to second on a Dominic Ficociello single. After Connor Harrell was hit by a pitch, Wade Gaynor smacked a single that plated Green. Harold Castro then crushed a double to center that cleared the loaded bases and put the SeaWolves on top 4-3.

Erie added another run in the bottom half of the third to extend the lead. JaCoby Jones and Green were issued back-to-back walks to lead off the inning. Jones then stole third and scored on a Miguel Gonzalez ground ball.

The Sea Dogs answered in the fifth inning to tie the game up at 5-5. Dustin Lawley and Jordan Weems led the inning off with singles and both scored a batter later on Carlos Asuaje's sixth triple of the year.

Portland then plated two more runs in the seventh inning to break the 5-5 tie. Aneruy Taverez singled and moved to second on a Sam Travis single. Tim Roberson then singled through the right side to plate Taverez from second. Ramos reached on a fielding error committed by Connor Harrell, which moved Travis to third. Travis then scored on a ground ball off the bat of Lin to put Portland in front 7-5.

The 'Wolves made things interesting in the bottom half of the seventh to pull within a run. Jason Krizan led off with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch Ficociello then smacked a single that brought home Krizan and cut the Portland lead in half, 7-6. However, this is the closest Erie came, the game went scoreless from this point on an ended in a 7-6 Portland victory.

SeaWolves starter Tommy Colllier took a no decision going five innings allowing five runs on seven hits while issuing two walks and fanning four. It was reliever Confessor Lara (1-2) who took the loss on the bump for Erie. Lara went two innings in his relief effort allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in the defeat.
