Akron RubberDucks News Release

Harrisburg's Isaac Ballou bounced a game-winning single to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday night, completing a two-run rally and lifting the Harrisburg Senators to a 3-2, walk-off win over the Akron RubberDucks at Metro Bank Park.

Turning Point

Trailing 2-1, entering the bottom of the ninth, the Senators got back-to-back hits from Drew Vettleson and Pedro Severino to start the inning against Akron closer Jeff Johnson (1-2). Jose Lozada then executed a sacrifice bunt with two strikes. Johnson picked up the ball and threw to third, but no one was covering because third baseman Yandy Diaz had also charged the bunt. Vettleson scored to tie the game, and Severino moved to third. Ballou, who earlier drove in a run with an RBI triple in the fourth inning, worked a 2-2 count, and then smacked a grounder through a pulled-in infield to drive home Severino with the winning run.

Mound Presence

Adam Plutko started and worked six innings for Akron, allowing just one run on six hits. Right-hander Josh Martin followed with a pair of scoreless innings, preserving a 2-1 lead through eight innings. It was the first blown save of the season in 20 chances for Johnson, who was the Indians minor league pitcher of the month for July. Harrisburg starter Austin Voth, one of the Nationals top pitching prospects, tossed a season-high eight innings and allowed just two runs.

Duck Tales

Diaz and Bradley Zimmer each clubbed solo homers, accounting for Akron's two runs. Diaz went deep in the fourth, his fifth of the year and third on the current road trip. Zimmer blasted a solo shot to right in the seventh, giving the RubberDucks a 2-1 lead. It was Zimmer's second of the season with Akron.
