New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Shane Carle became the first Rock Cats pitcher to win 12 games in a season in 11 years, as New Britain defeated the Altoona Curve, 4-1, Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium. The last Rock Cats pitcher to win 12 games in a season was Boof Bonser in 2004. The victory assures New Britain of a series win against the Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate, which is in contention for a playoff spot in the EL Western Division.

Carle (12-6) pitched six innings and allowed only three hits against the club with the highest batting average in the league (.276), while striking out eight. The bullpen then finished the job, behind Sam Moll, Kraig Sitton and Carlos Estevez.

"Yea, a good win. A lot of people contributed again," said Rock Cats manager Darin Everson.

Mike Tauchman, who paced the Rock Cats attack with two hits, knocked in David Dahl with a first inning single to give the Rock Cats a 1-0 lead. After Altoona tied it in the fourth, New Britain went ahead for good in its half of the frame, when Joey Wong's safety squeeze was dropped by the first baseman, as Jordan Patterson scored the go-ahead run.

Noel Cuevas gave the Rock Cats some insurance with a two-run home run in the seventh inning. It was his second homer of the year.

"That was big. It gave us some breathing room in the ninth," said Everson.

The Rock Cats wrap up the homestand and go for the sweep tomorrow with a day game at 12:05 PM. New Britain will be in Reading, PA this weekend and return to New Britain Stadium next Tuesday, August 11th to host the Yankees affiliate, the Trenton Thunder.
