November 18, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
Tulsa, OK- After falling behind by three goals, Wichita's comeback bid fell short as the Tulsa Oilers beat the Thunder 5-4 at the BOK Center Friday night. Jeff Terminesi's tally at 4:05 of the third period was the decisive goal that gave the Oilers its second consecutive win against the Thunder and just Wichita's third loss of the season.
David Solway got things started with a power play goal just six seconds after Chris Chappell was sent to the penalty box at 4:35 of the first. The two teams would combine for 15 power plays and four goals with the man advantage. Tulsa would add to that lead with a goal from defenseman Luke Lucyk at 13:16. Tulsa led by two goals twice in the game and at one point led by three before Wichita made a furious second period comeback.
Thomas Beauregard notched his fifth on the season three minutes later after he took a nice Alex Bourret feed and beat Tulsa netminder Ian Kesserich just past the blocker and cut the lead to one. However, just two seconds before the end of the first period, Mike Ullrich picked the puck out of the air and beat Wichita goalie Adam Russo to give Tulsa a two goal lead heading into the locker room.
The Thunder fell behind 4-1 after a Sean Erickson scored a power play goal in the early stages of the second period. Wichita would tie the game, scoring three unanswered goals in a span of just over four minutes. Alex Bourret scored his first of two at 9:28 after getting a pass from Matt Robinson and he fired it home. Just 52 seconds later, Travis Wight stole the puck at the Oiler line, went in all alone on a shorthanded breakaway and he pulled Wichita within one, 4-3. The Thunder now have five shorthanded goals on the season, first in the league.
Wichita would capitalize on a power play as Brett Hemingway fed the puck over to Daniel Tetrault and he let one rip that was tipped in by Bourret for his second on the night at 13:07. Hemingway's assist extends his scoring streak to seven games and Tetrault is now just four points shy (165) of former Thunder defenseman Sean O'Reilly for the most points scored in franchise history by a Thunder defenseman. Tetrault also moves into a first place tie in defensive scoring with Andrew Martens. (11)
Tulsa got the game winner on a five on three power play as Terminesi's wrister found the post and banked in past Russo and the Oilers hung on for their seventh win of the season. Wichita now trails the season series 2-1 as the two teams will play tomorrow night in Wichita for the first time this season. Wichita is now 8-3-0 and one point behind Allen in second place with 16 points and a game in hand on both the Americans and Tulsa.
Wichita returns home Saturday night after a three game road swing to take on the Tulsa Oilers at 7:05pm. For tickets, call 755-SEAT, visit the INTRUST Bank Arena Box office or go to www.selectaseat.com.
