November 18, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bloomington Blaze News Release
MOLINE -- The Bloomington Blaze, presented by Mid-Illini Credit Union, played again with a short lineup and fell to the Quad City Mallards 7-3 on Friday night at iWireless Center. The Blaze were still without forwards Kyle Laughlin and Luke Popko due to injury and defenseman and leading scorer Aaron Dawson due to a one-game suspension for a penalty on Thursday night.
The Blaze scored first after Karl Fournier made a move in the slot and beat Mallard goalie Brad Fogal on the glove side. The Mallards countered about seven minutes later with 7:47 remaining in the opening period with Justin Chwedoruk put back a rebound. The Mallards took a 2-1 lead with 2:05 left in the first when Brandon Marion buried a shot on the stick side off of a face-off.
Bloomington tied the game 2:49 into the second period when Jon Booras tallied from the left post on a set-up by Brodie Sheahan, who started the play with a poke check near the Mallards line. The tie only lasted 47 seconds, as Sean Flanagan scored from the right wing to put the Flock ahead 3-2. The Mallards extended the lead to 4-2 when Eric Giosa snapped one in from the left post with 10:15 remaining in the middle period.
Sean Flanagan scored his second goal of the night with 14:26 remaining in the final period to put the Mallards up 5-2. Jeremy Boyer converted from the left wing after a flurry in front of the net with exactly 10 minutes left to increase the Ducks lead to 6-2. Tyler Sheldrake rolled one in with just over six minutes remaining to push the Quad City lead to 7-2, but Greg Moore scored his first goal of the season for the Blaze with 3:15 left to make the final score 7-3.
The Blaze fall to 1-7-2 while the Mallards improve to 5-5-0. The Mallards outshot the Blaze 36-24.
The Blaze return home for the first time in two weeks on Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. face-off against the Dayton Gems. Disney Channel star Zendaya Coleman (Rocky Blue of "Shake It Up") will meet fans and sign autographs (one per person) on the U.S. Cellular Coliseum concourse from 6 till 9 p.m. Tickets are still available by calling the Blaze office at 309-434-2980.
