Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY - Cam Janssen tied the game and Paul Thompson sealed the victory, lifting the Albany Devils to a 3-2 win against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday at Times Union Center. Janssen netted his first goal of the season at 6:12 of the third to make it 2-2 and Thompson converted on a shorthanded breakaway with just 44 seconds remaining, to the delight of the Home Opener crowd of 4,011.

"Our mind set was just to get the kill and they had had a pretty good power play and break out," Thompson said. "I think I angled [Aaron] Ness and he kind of cut back on me and [Scott] Timmins just knocked it off his stick and created the turnover. Luckily, I had the breakaway."

The come-from-behind victory came a night after the Devils squandered four leads at Bridgeport in a 5-4 shootout loss. Albany improves to 2-0-0-1, while Bridgeport moves to 2-2-0-0.

Thompson, who scored four goals in his Devils debut last Saturday, netted his first of the night at 16:33, going five-hole on Bridgeport netminder David Leggio. The goal came just over two minutes after Scooter Vaughan gave the Sound Tigers a 1-0 advantage at 14:22.

A scoreless second segued into the early part of the third period. Bridgeport's John Persson put his team ahead at 4:19.

From there, Janssen tipped Ben Thomson's shot to tie the game and Thompson used his speed to net the winner over Leggio's shoulder.

"He's got the hot hand right now," said Head Coach Rick Kowalsky. "He had one in the first and I think Leggio was thinking five hole again and he went up top."

In his first appearance of the season, Scott Wedgewood made 24 of 26 saves.
