Binghamton Senators News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Senators stumbled on their first road trip of the 2014-15 season 4-2 to the Syracuse Crunch. Despite holding a 1-0 first period lead, the B-Sens failed to overcome a late third period flurry by the Crunch.
Cole Schneider gave Binghamton the early lead when he pushed home a cross-crease feed from Shane Prince past Kristers Gudlevskis 3:58 into the contest. Despite tempers running high early and a high tempo of play, that tally proved to be the lone marker of the first as the B-Sens carried a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Syracuse came out skating with a much higher intensity in the second. After a flurry of shots in front of Hammond, a bouncing puck went airborne and was put into the net by Jonathan Marchessault. Only 28 second later, Mike Blunden came speeding down the left and found Joel Vermin in center who then put it past a blocked Hammond to help Syracuse take the lead. Matt Puempel brought the game to a 2-2 tie as the result of a Syracuse tripping call. Puempel deflected a shot in front at 8:51 of the period with Captain Aaron Johnson and Schneider getting the assists.
The third period proved to be fatal for the B-Sens as back-to-back goals from the Crunch was the difference maker. Blunden and Matthew Corrente scored 50 seconds apart to give Syracuse the 4-2 win.
Gudlevskis stopped 31 of 33 shots faced for his first victory of the season while Hammond suffered his second loss of the year in a 40 save effort.
Binghamton will be traveling to St. John's for a two game series starting Tuesday, October 21, and concluding the following evening. Both games will air live on Oldies 96.9FM, WINR 680AM and iHeartRadio starting at 5:45p.m. Binghamton returns to home ice next Saturday, October 25, when they host the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at 7:05p.m.
