After Slow Start, Pirates Fall to Wolf Pack

Hartford, CT - The Portland Pirates (1-2-0-0) fell to the Hartford Wolf Pack (2-0-0-0) Saturday night in a game that saw all of its goals in the third period of play. The Pirates attempted a comeback in the waining minutes of the final frame, but were denied a tying goal to goalie interference.

Action started out slow, with no scoring in the first two periods. The Wolf Pack netted the first goal of the game at 6:45 of the third period with a goal from Ryan Haggerty, assisted by Oscar Lindberg and Ryan Potulny. Hartford gained an insurance goal when J.T. Miller scored at 12:48, assisted by Marek Hrivik.

Trailing 2-0 with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, the Pirates launched their comeback attempt with a goal from the captain. Alex Boldic scored at 14:51, assisted by Lucas Lessio and Mark Louis. Not long after, Dylan Reese netted a second goal only to have it ruled goalie interference seconds later.

Portland goalie Mike McKenna (1-2-0) was kept busy in the second period, with 19 saves in that frame. He had 30 total saves on the night and let in two. Hartford goalie Cedrick Desjardin (2-0-0) totaled 19 saves and one goal on the night.

The Pirates travel north to Providence Sunday where they will take on the Bruins at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
