Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced Tuesday the addition of veteran defenseman Mario Larocque to the preseason roster with 3 weeks remaining until camp.

Larocque (la-ROCK), 28, was selected by Tampa Bay in the first round, 16th overall, in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft. He made his NHL debut in his rookie season of 1998-99 posting 14 penalty minutes in 5 games with Tampa Bay. Larocque spent most of his rookie season in Cleveland in the IHL. The 6-foot, 4-inch defenseman skated the past 2 seasons with Danbury in the UHL posting 11 goals, 47 points and 458 penalty minutes in 114 games. Last year Larocque passed 11 assists in 18 playoff games with the Trashers while accumulating 40 penalty minutes in post season action. Larocque has appeared in 83 AHL games including 5 last season with Bridgeport Sound. The Montreal, Quebec native was a 2nd round pick by the Komets in the Adirondack-Danbury dispersal draft June 15. Larocque becomes the 6th defenseman on the Komet preseason roster.

The Komets also added 2 rookie wingers to the pre-camp lineup. David Besner and Martin Aubin have been invited to camp. Besner, 21, led the Vallyfield Braves in 2004-05 with 52 goals and 105 points in his 3rd season of QJAHL play. Aubin, 21, skated his 3rd season in the QMJHL last year while also appearing in 13 games with Sorel Tracy in the LNAH during 2005-06.

The Komet roster increases to 20 players including 12 forwards, 6 defensemen and 2 goaltenders.

The Komets will open a 2-week training camp Monday, October 2. Three exhibition games, including 2 at home and 1 on the road, are planned. The Komets will host Port Huron in a preseason tilt at the Coliseum Wednesday, Oct. 4. Then the Komets will face Kalamazoo in a home-and-home exhibition series starting at Fort Wayne Friday, Oct. 6. Saturday, Oct. 7 the Komets face the Wings at Wings stadium in the final preseason tune-up. The Komets will start the season on the road Friday, Oct. 13 at Rockford and will skate their 55th home opener Saturday, Oct. 21 against the visiting Quad City Mallards at 7:30pm. -2006-07 Komet schedule-

Frenchy makes pitch for JDRF.....Komet fans are invited to join goaltender Kevin St. Pierre and other Komet players as they face the Fort Wayne Fire Department, led by former Komet Kevin Bertram, in a benefit softball game fundraiser for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The game is scheduled for this Sunday, Sep. 17 at 2pm at Tillman Park in Fort Wayne. Admission is free and donations will be accepted for JDRF with 100% of the proceeds going to diabetes research.
