Elmira Jackals News Release
Elmira, NY - The Elmira Jackals announced today that they have traded the rights of defenseman Brett Angel to the Muskegon Fury for the rights of rookie goaltender Kris Tebbs. The Jackals also announced that they have signed rookie goaltenders Kris Tebbs and Michael Dilorenzo to contracts for the upcoming campaign. They are the 14th & 15th players signed by the Jackals for the 2006-2007 Season.
The Jackals have made another trade during this current UHL off-season. Elmira sent the rights of defenseman Brett Angel to the Muskegon Fury in exchange for the rights of goaltender Kris Tebbs. After acquiring the goaltender, the Jackals have inked Tebbs to a contract for the 2006-07 season. Elmira also announced the signing of rookie goaltender Michael Dilorenzo to a one-year contract.
"In order to have a strong, competitive team in the United Hockey League, especially with the longer travel schedule Elmira faces this season, we definitely have to have two number one goaltenders," said General Manager Robbie S. Nichols. "To acquire a quality goaltender in Kris Tebbs we had to give up a quality player in Brett Angel. We are sorry to see Angel go, but we wish him the best of luck this season."
Kris Tebbs has spent most of two seasons with the UHL's Adirondack Frostbite from 2004-2006. When the Frostbite announced that they would cease operations, Tebbs was taken by Muskegon in the subsequent dispersal draft. In two years as a professional, the Calgary, Alberta native has appeared in 60 games, all for Adirondack, but he still holds rookie status in the UHL; he is currently 153 minutes below the 3,600-minute cutoff mark for rookies set by the UHL. Last season Tebbs posted an impressive 22-14-2 record with a 2.91 goals against average and a 0.900 save percentage as he split the starting duty with Derek Gustafson. He also had one shutout in his 2,246 minutes of action during the regular season. The 25 year old started all six playoff games for Adirondack and recorded two assists during the season.
"Kris is a quality goaltender who knows the UHL very well," said Nichols. "In spite of his two-years of experience, he is still a rookie by UHL rules, which adds to his value. He was very strong in goal for Adirondack last year and we expect the same high level of play in goal for the Jackals."
Michael Dilorenzo shares a similar situation in terms of his rookie status with the United Hockey League. Dilorenzo split the 2005-06 season between the Laredo Bucks and the Memphis Riverkings, both of the Central Hockey League. The Waterford, New York native spent most of last season in Memphis, where he made 26 appearances, posting a record or 6-11-2 with a 3.75 GAA and a 0.899 save percentage. The 23-year old's numbers were much brighter with Laredo, 3-0-1 record with a 2.21 GAA and 0.923 save percentage. Dilorenzo made his professional debut in the CHL during the 2004-05 season, playing 5 games for the San Angelo Saints after completing a Canadian Major Junior career spent mostly in Nova Scotia with both Halifax (QMJHL) and Yarmouth (MJAHL).
"Michael is a very talented young goaltender with a rising stock," said Nichols. "He shined in Laredo and fought hard for a team with a losing record in Memphis. With a core of Dilorenzo, Tebbs and Degagne between the pipes, we have a strong, proven, goaltending situation going into the season."
The Elmira Jackals are gearing up for their seventh season of operations in the United Hockey League and the Twin Tiers.
