Quad City Mallards News Release

Moline, IL-The Quad City Mallards today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Luke Stauffacher. The 5-foot-8, 170-pound forward will begin his second full season of pro hockey this fall.

Last season, Stauffacher split his rookie season between Charlotte and Trenton of the ECHL. He recorded 10 goals with 14 assists for 24 points in 67 total games. The feisty rookie also earned 117 penalty minutes. In a pair of post-season appearances with Trenton, Stauffacher recorded one point (an assist).

Stauffacher made his pro debut with a two-game stint for the Peoria Rivermen (then of the ECHL) in the spring of 2005. He was held pointless during his brief time in Peoria but recorded 15 penalty minutes. Stauffacher joined the Rivermen after completing his senior season at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

"We have gotten some great reports on Luke," said Mallards President Tim Taylor. "He's a gritty player that is going to irritate and stand up for himself. We think he'll be a pleasure for our fans to watch."

"I look forward to getting Luke on the ice," said Mallards General Manager and Head Coach Brian Curran. "We've spoken with a few people about Luke and he sounds like a player that will be fun to work with. He brings a lot of intensity. He's a 5-foot-8 player who plays like he's 6-foot-9."

Stauffacher played four seasons at the University of Minnesota Duluth. He appeared in 154 collegiate games and recorded 74 points (36 goals and 38 assists) with 184 penalty minutes. He led the team in penalty minutes (80) as a sophomore in 2002-03.

The 25-year old forward spent four years with the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) before beginning his collegiate career. In 189 USHL games, Stauffacher recorded 39 goals with 77 assists for 116 points with 368 penalty minutes. In 1999-2000, he was a member of the Gamblers USHL Championship squad.
