West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK - The second half of the season began for the Whitecaps in a way that many first-half games wound up. West Michigan rallied for single runs in the fifth and sixth innings to grab a 2-1 lead, but Lansing retaliated for three runs in the top of the seventh to take a 4-2 advantage on the way to a win by the same score. Dallas Trahern pitched six innings for the Whitecaps and took the loss, but had allowed only one run going into the seventh. Trahern faced three batters in the seventh, each of whom came away with hits. Christian Snavely knocked a game-tying single to center before Trahern left the game with the score tied, 2-2. Ian Ostlund came on in relief. The lefty allowed a sacrifice fly to center by Eugenio Velez that put Lansing on top for good, 3-2. Lavon Lewis followed Ostlund and surrendered the RBI single by Curtis Thigpen that made the score, 4-2. All three runs in the inning were charged to Trahern. Luis Sabino and Josh Lee led off the sixth inning with back-to-back doubles which put the Whitecaps on top, 2-1. West Michigan tied the game, 1-1 on an error by third baseman Jason Armstrong in the fifth that allowed Nick McIntyre to score from second base. McIntyre doubled prior to the run. He finished 2-for-3 with a walk. A first inning single stretched McIntyre's hitting streak to 15 games. Whitecaps newcomer Freddi Dolsi pitched shutout innings in the eighth and ninth. He allowed one hit and struck out one. Four Lansing pitchers combined to for 13 strikeouts. The last eight Whitecaps hitters in the game were retired in order.
Pitching Probables: As a result of the promotion of starting pitcher Kyle Yates from Lansing by the Blue Jays, the Lugnuts rotation for the remainder of this series remains to be determined.
