
Bees Open Second Half With Roster Moves

Burlington, IA (June 23, 2005) - The Kansas City Royals have adjusted the Burlington Bees roster before the start of the second half. C Derek Norman has been re-assigned to the Arizona Royals in the Arizona Rookie League and OF Jared Ellis has been released. The Royals have added C Felipe Del Rosario from the roster of the Idaho Falls Chukars in the Pioneer League and OF Cody Cure, just signed as a non-drafted free agent out of Abilene Christian University. The Bees active roster remains at 24 players.
Norman leaves the team on a seven-game hitting streak, including three hits and three runs scored on Sunday afternoon at Kane County. Norman was batting .271 with 9 RBI and 13 runs scored in 30 games and walked 13 times while striking out just 12. Ellis joined the Bees from extended spring training on June 3rd. He batting .158 with 3 RBI in 14 games and struck out 21 times in 38 at-bats.
Del Rosario has spent the last three seasons in the Royals organization after signing in July of 2001. He hit .263 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 34 games with Idaho Falls last year. He spent 2003 with the Royals Rookie Advanced team in 2003 and led Salcedo with a .268 batting average in 36 games in the Dominican Summer League in 2002. Del Rosario has a career batting average of .266 with 3 homers, 33 RBI, and 23 doubles in 104 games.
Cure hit .387 with 2 homers and 49 RBI for the ACU Wildcats this past season. He also set a school record with 27 doubles, scored 64 runs, and stole 28 bases in 31 attempts in 59 games. He was named to the NCAA Division II South Central Regional All-Tournament team and 2nd team All-Region. He was the Lone Star Conference Pre-Season Player of the Year after hitting .395 with a homer, 33 RBI, and 23 stolen bases last year. He transferred to ACU in 2004 after playing two seasons at Texarkana Junior College. He graduated from Henderson (TX) High School in 2001 where he was a two-time all-state selection and a three-time first team all-district player.
The Bees open up the second half of the season tonight with the first of a four-game series against the Beloit Snappers at 7:00 at Community Field. RH Patrick Green will start for the Bees tonight. The gates open at 6:00 for a Fat Tuesdays Thirsty Thursday featuring two-for-$3 specials on all 20oz. bottles of Pepsi products and 12oz. cans of beer. Friday Fest returns to Community Field tomorrow afternoon, starting at 4:30 featuring the band South 61 and drink specials in the Budweiser Brat Garden.
