Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (June 23, 2005) - The Beloit Snappers (1-0, 34-37) came out of the second half gates swinging. The Snappers struck for five runs on six hits in the top of the first inning on their way to an 8-3 win over the Burlington Bees (0-1, 34-37) at Community Field tonight. The Snappers now lead the season series 3-2 over the Bees.

The Snappers opened the game with five straight hits. Landon Burt, Luke Hughes, and Deacon Burns all singled to load the bases. David Winfree drove in two with a base hit up the middle. Mark Zamocj rolled a double up the third base line to drive in Burns and the Snappers led 3-0 before making an out. Bees' starter Patrick Green (3-5) struck out Chris Brown, but Dwayne White drove in two more runs with a single to cap the rally. Green would go on to work through 6.2 innings and allow all eight runs on twelve hits. The Snappers added two runs in the fifth. Burt walked and scored on a triple by Hughes. Burns followed with a sacrifice fly to left. With two outs in the top of the seventh, Burns, Winfree, and Zamocj all singled to produce the final run and knock Green out of the game. Yovany Damico stranded the two runners and worked a scoreless eighth. Adam Rowe set down the Snappers in order in the ninth.

Snappers' starter Jose Mijares (4-0) limited the Bees to one infield single and struck out seven through five shutout innings. Mijares is now 2-0 against the Bees this year. Irving Falu led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer off of the scoreboard against Josh Hill. It was Falu's first homer of the year and it extended his hitting streak to eleven straight games, tying Rusty Brown for the longest hit streak by a Bees' player this season. Falu would add a single in the eighth as well.

Hill worked two innings and allowed just the one run. Kevin Culpepper finished the final two innings and allowed a two-out, two-run single to Kenard Springer in the bottom of the ninth. Only one of the runs was earned due to an error earlier in the inning.
