FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 16-9 in their second half opener against the Swing of the Quad Cities on Thursday night. They scored six times and had the tying and winning runs on base with two outs, but Quad Cities held on for a 16-15 win.

Quad Cities (37-33 overall, 1-0 second half) came out swinging in the top of the first. After lead-off batter Matt Lemanczyk drew a walk, stole second, and went to third on a throwing error, Juan Lucena drove him in with a single. Next, Rick Ankiel hit a long home run to rightcenter to make the score 3-0. Later in the Spencer Wyman doubled and Jake Mullinax followed with an RBI double to make it 4-0.

Marshall Hubbard drove in a Rattler run in the bottom of the first inning with a single. Then, in the second inning, it was Wisconsin's turn for a four run inning. Josh Womack singled in the first run of the inning. Sebastien Boucher singled in a run to extend his hitting streak to twelve games to get the Rattlers (39-32, 0-1) to within 4-3. Yung Chi Chen put the Rattlers in front with a two run single to right.

Mike Wilson hit a long solo home run to leftcenter to start the Rattler third and made the score 6-4.

The Swing knocked two Rattler pitchers out of the game in the top of the fourth inning with six runs to go up 10-6. Wisconsin starter Randy Frye got the first out of the inning, but he gave up a pair of singles and a walk to load the bases. Reliver Eric O'Flaherty walked Ankiel to force in a run. Mike Ferris put the Swing in front with a two run single to right. O'Flaherty walked Simon Williams to reload the bases. Spencer Wyman singled in another run. A fielder's choice scored the fifth run of the inning. A run scoring double by Matt Shepherd chased O'Flaherty from the game and made the score 10-6.

Matt Lemanczyk started the Swing fifth inning with his second home run of the season and it was an 11-6 Swing lead. Calvin Hayes added an RBI single in the top of the sixth for a 12-6 Quad Cities lead.

The Rattlers rallied for three runs in the seventh inning. Peoria starter Tyler Adamczyk, who had retired thirteen straight after giveing up the homer to Wilson, gave up a single to Boucher to end that streak. He walked Chen and left the game in favor of reliever Kyle McClellan. The first batter McClellan faced was Matt Tuiasosopo, who reached on an infield single to load the bases. Next, Hubbard banged a two-run double off the wall in leftcenter. Wilson pulled the Rattlers to within 12-9 with a sacrifice fly.

Wisconsin loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but McClellan struck out Tuiasosopo to end the threat.

Then, Quad Cities pushed the lead to seven with three runs in the top of the eighth and a run in the top of the ninth.

Hubbard started the ninth inning with a walk against Wayne Lundgren. Lundgren got a strikeout for the first out, but things got interesting after that. A single by Rob Johnson and a walk to Brent Johnson loaded the bases. Oswaldo Navarro singled in the first run of the inning and ended Lundgren's night. Jaymie Torres threw a wild pitch to score Rob Johnson. Then, Womack drilled a triple off the top of the centerfield wall to score a pair of 16-13. Quad Cities closer Mike Sillman entered the game and gave up a triple to Boucher that scored Womack to get the Rattlers to within 16-14. The hit was Boucher's fourth of the night.

Chen drove in his third run of the night with a sacrifice fly to make the score 16-15. But, the Rattlers had two outs and nobody on base. Sillman walked Tuiasosopo and Hubbard to put the tying and winning runs on base. Sillman struck out Wilson to end the game and earn his fifteenth save of the season.

Ankiel, Hayes, and Mullinax all drove in three runs for the Swing. Chen, Hubbard, and Womack each drove in three runs for the Rattlers.

Game two of the four game series is Friday night. Aaron Jensen (4-7, 4.82ERA) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Quad Cities will counter with Dennis Dove (5-5, 4.20ERA). Game time at Fox Cities Stadium is 7:05pm.
