
Lairdâ??s Offense Not Enough as Cutters Fall to Lowell

The Williamsport Crosscutters dropped a 5-2 decision against the Lowell Spinners on Thursday night at Susquehanna Bank Park. The Cutters took one of the three meetings between the two teams and drop to 17-6 at home this season. Williamsport opens a three game series against Vermont on Friday night.
The Cutters saw Lowell jump onto the scoreboard in the top of first inning after a one out triple put a runner into scoring position. The Spinners would take a 1-0 lead in the next at bat with a sacrifice fly to center field allowing the runner to score from third. Williamsport would tie the game 1-1 in the bottom of the third inning. Gregori Rivero lead off the inning with a double and would score on an RBI single from Mark Laird.
Lowell took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning scoring from third base on a wild pitch. The Spinners would add another run in the top of the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to increase their lead to 3-1. Laird delivered the Cutters second run of the game in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single scoring Carlos Duran from third base to make it 3-2.
Jose Taveras took the loss for Williamsport falling to 4-2 on the season. Taveras worked 5.1 innings allowing three runs on six hits. Lowell would keep their trend going by scoring another run in the top of the ninth inning via the sacrifice fly to take a 4-2 lead. The final run of the night would score on a double steal during the next at bat. Jacob Waguespack shined for the Cutters on the mound working 2.2 perfect innings while adding four strikeouts.
