
Black Bears Swept on the Road by Tri-City

West Virginia Black Bears News Release
The West Virginia Black Bears lost all three games to the Tri-City ValleyCats in the series at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, where West Virginia lost the first game 5-1 on Tuesday, July 28. On Wednesday, July 29, the Black Bears were defeated by the ValleyCats 5-4 before dropping the series finale 5-3 on Thursday, July 30. The Black Bears now have an overall record of 20-19 while Tri-City improves to 22-17.
July 28 - Black Bears fall to ValleyCats 5-1 as team's winning streak snapped at nine games
West Virginia scored its lone run in the third inning when SS Kevin Newman delivered a double to left field and then later scored on an RBI single from LF Ty Moore. The ValleyCats scored two runs in the fifth and three in the seventh while tallying ten hits in the game. SP Dario Agrazal had a strong outing on the mound, pitching 5.0 innings and allowing only two runs (earned) with a strikeout.
July 29 - Despite late rally, West Virginia defeated by Tri-City 5-4
RF Logan Hill hit a home run to left field to give West Virginia a 1-0 lead in the first before CF Casey Hughston doubled in a run in the second to extend the lead to 2-0. Tri-City tied the game 2-2 in the bottom half of the inning and then added on three more runs in the fifth. The two teams were scoreless until eighth inning when the Black Bears threatened by making the score 5-4 on two errors, allowing two runs to cross. Hughston led the way for the Black Bears at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with an RBI.
July 30 - Black Bears drop series finale to Tri-City 5-3
The Black Bears took an early 1-0 lead when CF Alexis Bastardo grounded out, scoring 3B Daniel Arribas from third after advancing on a sacrifice bunt. Tri-City put up four runs in the bottom of the third, before RF Logan Hill blasted his fifth home run this season to cut the ValleyCats' lead to 4-2. The Black Bears scored again in the sixth but Tri-City answered right back to go ahead 5-3 in the seventh. SP Seth McGarry was tagged with his first loss of the season (1-1) but RP Nick Hibbing was lights out in relief after tossing 3.1 scoreless innings.

The Black Bears now travel to take on the Connecticut Tigers in a three-game series at Dodd Stadium beginning on Friday, July 31 with a slated first pitch of 7:05 p.m. West Virginia will send RHP Jonathan Brubaker to the mound on Friday, RHP Bret Helton will pitch on Saturday while RHP Dario Agrazal will wrap up the series on Sunday.
