
Pitchers Dominate and Bats Explode in Win

AUBURN, NY - The pitchers at one point retires 18 in a row and the bats exploded early on in a 6-1 win for the Doubledays over the IronBirds. With the win, Auburn took the series as well 2-1.
After a scoreless first, both teams scored in the second. In the top of the second with two outs, Erick Fedde gave up back-to-back-to-back singles that allowed the IronBirds to take a 1-0 lead, but Aberdeen didn't have that lead for very long.
In the bottom of the second, the Doubledays took a 2-1 lead. Kelvin Gutierrez led off with a single before he was out at second on a fielder's choice that allowed David Kerian to reach first. After Melvin Rodriguez struck out, Randy Encarnacion walked to put runners on first and second. With Jorge Tillero at the plate, Kerian advanced to third and Encarnacion to second. A couple pitches later, Tillero drove them both in with a two-run double to give the Doubledays the lead.
An inning later in the bottom of the third, Auburn's offense exploded. Victor Robles led off with a triple and then scored on an RBI single off the bat of Ian Sagdal. Rhett Wiseman then walked and Gutierrez singled to load the bases to load the bases. Kerian stepped in next and grounded into a fielder's choice and Sagdal was out at home. Rodriguez dug in after Kerian and drove in Wiseman, Gutierrez, and Kerian with a bases clearing double into right center to give the Doubledays a 6-1 lead.
After the third, the Doubledays cruised to victory. After the first two hitters singled in the fourth, Erick Fedde, Cody Gunter, Kevin Mooney, and Tommy Peterson retired 17 in a row. Gunter's line was 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, and 2 K's, Mooney's was 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, and 1 K, and Peterson's was 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, and 0 K's. With two outs in the ninth, Peterson walked Alexander Lee to end the streak.
The IronBirds took game one of the series 10-0, but after that the Doubledays' bats woke up. Auburn took game two 8-5 and then the series finale 6-1.
Fedde took the win with the following line: 5 IP, 7 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, and 2 K's. Jean Cosme took the loss with the line: 2.1 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, and 1 K.
The Doubledays host the Tampa Bay Rays' Affiliate the Hudson Valley Renegades for a three-game series that starts Friday night at 7:05 PM. 2015 ACC Pitcher of the Year and 6th round pick by the Washington Nationals in the 2015 MLB Draft Matt Crownover starts on the mound Friday night for the Doubledays.
