-SPIKES CONTINUE HOMESTAND AGAINST LAKE MONSTERS: The Spikes look to bounce back tonight as they continue their 10th Season with the finale of a three-game series against the Vermont Lake Monsters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. State College will be at the halfway mark of the 2015 season at the end of the game, and stands just a game-and-a-half out of first place in the NYPL Wild Card race. The series against Vermont is the first half of a six-game homestand for the Spikes, who welcome Lowell (Red Sox affiliate) to town for the weekend. State College is 14-13 all-time against Vermont, with a 9-5 record against the Lake Monsters at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: Josh Swirchak produced his second consecutive multi-hit game, but the Spikes were held to just four hits as a team and fell to the Vermont Lake Monsters, 3-0, on Wednesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. Swirchak, who collected three hits on Tuesday night, delivered late in the game with a single in the seventh and a double down the right field line in the ninth to give the Spikes some hope. However, State College could not sustain the offense enough to repeat Tuesday's six-run comeback. Dailyn Martinez took the loss, but threw six quality innings for the Spikes. Martinez allowed three runs, though just one was earned, on seven hits and a hit batsman. The right-hander also struck out four batters in the effort. Craig Aikin's infield single in the third was the first hit for State College, and the Spikes had the tying run at the plate in the eighth inning following a walk and an error before a strikeout ended the frame.

-PEREZ MAKES START FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Juan Perez gets the ball for State College tonight. Perez has tossed 12 straight scoreless innings, including five on Friday night at Hudson Valley for his fourth win of the year. The righty tied a Spikes team record with 10 strikeouts in his last home start, and earned New York-Penn League Pitcher of the Week honors for July 13-19 for his performance. Perez has gone 2-0 with a 2.25 ERA and 14 strikeouts to seven walks at home this season, and has held righties to a .224 batting average.

-MANARINO GETS BALL FOR LAKE MONSTERS: Right-hander Evan Manarino makes his third start and eighth appearance of the year for Vermont this evening. Manarino, the Athletics' 25th-round draft choice out of UC-Irvine in 2015, has gone exactly three innings in each of his last four appearances. As a starter, the Mission Viejo, CA native has not yet allowed a run. Manarino went 7-3 with a 3.80 ERA and 76 strikeouts over 94 2/3 innings for UC-Irvine this spring as he started 15 games for the Anteaters.

-GRAYSON DELIVERING BIG NUMBERS: Casey Grayson is still near the top of several leaderboards in the New York-Penn League. The University of Houston product is third in the NYPL in batting average with a .328 mark. Grayson's .428 on-base percentage is fourth in the league, and he occupies spots in the NYPL's top five in hits (T-5th, 40), runs batted in (5th, 22) and walks (T-2nd, 22). The Cypress, TX native has also reached base in every home game he has played this season, a 19-game string.

-PINA SURGING AT THE PLATE: Leobaldo Pina's four-hit game on Sunday was his second of the season, following the quartet of knocks he produced against Tri-City on July 15, and increased his average from .279 to .299 over the weekend. Pina is now tied for third in the league with 41 hits.

-SPIKE MARKS: Mike Pritchard is second in the NYPL in runs scored with 25...Ian McKinney has logged 40 2/3 innings on the mound, fifth-most in the league...Vermont leads the NYPL with 22 homers as a team...The Spikes are hitting .255 as a team, tied for fith-best in the NYPL but just three points back of first-place Batavia...Jorge Rodriguez has allowed opposing hitters just a .205 batting average, fourth-best among starting pitchers in the loop
